About
About Noorul Qalam Academy
Islam: Wisdom for Humanity. Understand. Reflect. Learn. Practise.
About the name
نور القلم (Nur al-Qalam) means "Light of the Pen". Light (nur) is a recurring Qur'anic image for guidance and understanding. The pen (qalam) stands for learning and knowledge: the first revelation describes God as the One "Who taught by the pen" (Qur'an 96:4), and a whole surah, Al-Qalam, opens with an oath "By the pen and what they inscribe" (68:1).
The name expresses what the academy hopes to offer: knowledge that brings light.
Our mission
Noorul Qalam Academy aims to make authentic Islamic knowledge accessible and understandable to everyone: Muslims, people of other faiths and none, people exploring questions of meaning, and anyone interested in ethics, compassion and personal growth.
We aim to educate, not to argue. This site does not pressure anyone to accept a belief, does not ridicule other religions, and avoids sensational or fear-based messaging. Our approach is simple: teach clearly, cite sources, encourage reflection, respect the learner, and let people think for themselves.

Content standards
Qur'anic text is never typed by hand: it is loaded by reference from a verified dataset. Every hadith shows its collection, number, grade and the authority who graded it. Our explanations are always labelled separately from primary sources. Full details are on the Sources and Methodology page.
Limitations
- The lessons are introductory. They are not fatwas (religious rulings) and cannot address personal legal, medical, financial or family situations. Please consult a qualified scholar or professional for those.
- Citations are checked against their sources, and every lesson is reviewed and approved by the academy before publication. The lessons are not endorsed by any external scholar or institution. Each lesson shows its review status.
- We present mainstream Sunni scholarship and note significant differences of interpretation where relevant. We cannot represent every view on every question.
- This first release contains a curated selection of lessons and Qur'an passages, not the complete Qur'an.
Independence
This is an independent educational project. It has not been endorsed by any scholar, institution or charity, it is not a registered charity, and it does not collect donations. If that changes, it will be stated clearly here.
