The Oneness of God

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ1 ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ2 لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ3 وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ4
Translation · Saheeh International
1Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One
2Allah, the Eternal Refuge
3He neither begets nor is born
4Nor is there to Him any equivalent
Explanation

Four verses that summarise tawhid, the Islamic belief in God's absolute oneness: God is One, all depend on Him, He has no offspring or parent, and nothing is equivalent to Him.
Historical and literary context
The Prophet described this surah as equal to one-third of the Qur'an, which scholars explain in terms of its theme.
